EP. 66: How to Sell Your Books on Pinterest w/Debbie Gonzalez

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Debbie Gonzales, an award-winning children’s author, career educator, and the founder of Pin Lit Marketing, where she specializes in boosting book visibility and engagement through Pinterest. Debbie’s slow and steady system highlights the significance of evergreen content, strategic keyword usage, and a structured approach to building an audience and selling books. This interview has us rethinking our whole aversion to Pinterest as a marketing option and just may have us updating our Pinterest boards! Listen in!
The Question We Forgot to Ask!
After our call with Debbie, we realized that we neglected to ask one of our biggest questions regarding Pinterest. We couldn’t believe our oversight! To make up for it, we emailed Debbie and asked if she would be willing to answer just one more question for us. She graciously obliged. Read her answer to our burning question, below.
Mary K: One of the main reasons I left Pinterest was because they were beginning to roll out video pins and carousel pins, and these felt a lot like the reels I had left behind on Instagram. I was beginning to hear that Pinterest was prioritizing video pins over static pins, and that to ensure your pins were seen, you need to start making them either a multi-graphic carousel or a video. Can an author see success on Pinterest if they only ever create and share static Pins? Or does part of your strategy include video pins as well? How do you help your authors navigate that?
Debbie: Great question!!!! Thanks for asking. Here are my thoughts:
Honestly, about 95% of what we post for our clients are static pins. At Pin Lit, we focus on creating long-lasting, evergreen content, rather than chasing flashy trends or algorithms. While video and carousel pins can be fun, they’re not a must for success. Pinterest still rewards well-made, keyword-rich static pins, especially when they match what your audience is actually searching for. We help our authors lean into what feels doable and true to them—and for most, that means sticking with simple, strong static pins that keep working over time.
It’s steady as she goes over here in Pin Lit Land. We’re all about using your life’s work as the foundation for what we call “legacy marketing.” That means showing up with purpose, building a platform that honors everything you’ve created, and letting your work do the talking—day after day, season after season. Pinterest is the perfect space for that kind of slow-burn, soul-driven visibility. No dance trends or flashy edits required—just meaningful content that keeps reaching the right people over time.
